Relyon Bedstead mattress comparisons for slatted base?

Mubeen asked
29th March 2016

I have a sprung slatted base and can’t decide which mattress to buy. My choices are:
Relyon Bedstead Grand 1000
Relyon Bedstead Sutton
Origins Comfort 1000
We are both light weight (under 10 stones). I’m thinking Sutton as I wouldn’t need to turn mattress often? Any advice would be helpful.

Hi Mubeen,

Thanks for getting in touch. Let’s see if I can help.

Firstly I would avoid a no turn mattress as you’re limiting yourself to only being able to use one side of the mattress so unless the mattress is half the price and you’re happy for it to only last half as long, we would avoid this if possible. The Relyon Sutton is a no turn mattress and it’s often sold as a benefit but we have written an article here which lays out the arguments against one-sided mattresses. For this reason, I would take the Sutton out of the runnings.

The Relyon Bedstead Grand 1000 lists being upholstered with an anti-allergenic layer, cotton, soft white fibre and resilient foam. However, without the GSM‘s you have no idea what the amounts are. I also have no idea how they can guarantee a ‘dust free’ soft white fibre layer. All fibres can harbour dust and will over time. It’s good mattress maintenance that reduces this. This phrase really puzzles me as in our experience a dust-free fibre is impossible without it being sealed in an airtight vacuum! It gives no idea of spring gauge or what these pocket springs are covered in making a comparison very difficult.

Origins Comfort 1000 luxury mattress

Our Origins Comfort 1000 sets the benchmark for an entry-level quality pocket sprung handmade mattress. It’s ideal for your bodyweights. We have yet to find a retail model that comes anywhere close in terms of the amount of fillings and spring unit. In fact, we believe this is the very reason why they don’t disclose such information as you would see just how little is in them. Our mattresses are 13″ in depth which should just how deep our mattresses are. I’d advise you try and find the Relyon Bedstead Grand 1000 and measure it which would be a good indicator of how many fillings it contains.

Lastly, most mattresses are suitable for sprung slat bases, however, we advise you board over them to ensure that the mattress doesn’t end up dipping when sitting between the slats which will give you a lumpy feel and over time this will damage your mattress, also you will not get the correct support from the springs.

We hope that helps Mubeen, please get in touch on 0161 437 4419 if you have any further questions. Our office hours are 8 am – 8 pm Monday to Friday and 10 am – 4 pm Saturday and Sunday.
