Replacing 11 year old mattress with Sealy

Nicola asked
23rd September 2012

I am looking for a relacement for an extremely uncomfortable 11 years old cheap mattress (used on a slatted beadstead and the springs seem to have worn holes in one side so it can’t be turned over). While on holiday recently I slept on a Sealy Posturepedic Ultra Superior firm mattress which was one of the most comfortable mattresses I have ever slept on (I do also find the Premier Inn mattresses comfy). This mattress doesn’t seem to be available now and I wondered if you could recommend something similar to this, or if you knew which model has replaced it in the Sealy range?

I am looking for a medium to firm mattress in a small double size – which limits my choice – and am around 11 1/2 stone and 5’7″”. Any advice you can give will be much appreciated. .

Hi Nicola.

Thank you for your enquiry on our website. Let’s face it, from how you describe your current mattress a bag full of nuts and bolts would be more comfortable. Which brings me to the point of your holiday experience on an Ultra Firm mattress. Your bodyweight just does not need this level of support.  We would pair you with a medium spring tension to give you the correct level of support for your bodyweight.

Medium1.4mmUpto 16 stone
Firm1.6mm16 stone plus
Extra Firm / Orthopaedic1.9mm20 stone plus

I am going to assume that by looking at this particular mattress (incidentally the nearest equivalent will be the Millionaire Ortho or The Backcare Elite) it is based on a particularly low budget which despite the hundreds of offerings out there (under £400) your choices will not be that great but horrendously confusing.  As an indicator of what we would be able to offer as a starter, I would suggest our Origins Pocket Reflex 1000.  This particular model is well priced, 1000 pocket springs, full two-sided and has a substantial level of upholstery (Reflex and Polyester sandwich construction). Obviously, natural fibres are the best but they do come at a price.
