Replacing fifteen year old mattress

Sara asked
2nd July 2014

Hi, I am desperate to get a new mattress and maybe a new bed. My husband and I have had our current bed and mattress for about 15 years and I for one do not sleep at all well on it. I am 5ft 1 and 8.5 stone. Husband in 5fr 11 and 13.5 stone. I have read and read so much on your website and seem to be easily lead by each new comment and so am left once again baffled as to what to choose. I feel I get thrown about when my husband turns over and so was all set to go Zip and Link but from what I’ve read on your FABULOUS website I don’t think I need this?

Currently we have Kingsize and I think that’s what we’ll stay with, although am tempted to go SuperKing. Please can you advise on the best type of mattress to go with?

Also, would you recommend slatted or divan base?

If slatted is there actually any need to replace our current one that is 15 years old?

Thank you so much for your help, I know you have so many emails to respond to!

Hi Sara,

Thanks for getting in touch. It’s hard to advise an exact mattress without some further questions and we certainly don’t want to overload you with detail. I did, however, want to reply specifically to your comment on getting thrown about in bed when your husband moves. This is a common complaint we hear about especially when there’s a noticeable difference in weight between sleepers.

Have you considered a latex or hybrid foam mattress? Latex and hybrid foams are great at reducing what we call ‘transference’ ie when one sleeper moves it can send a ripple effect in cheaper beds through the mattress. Latex, in particular, is an excellent low transference material. Please have a look at our Fusion range for an idea and also give us a call to discuss further your requirements and preferred tension etc.

We look forward to hearing from you.
