Replacing Hypnos Orthos Cashmere

Ally asked
7th February 2015

Hi Guys, How refreshing to find a website with good information about the bed and mattress market which is a total minefield. We have a Hypnos Orthos Cashmere mattress and want to buy a new divan base. Naturally I want to buy a Hypnos base (with drawers) and understand that it should be a non-sprung base type as that is what the mattress is designed to be used with. A local store I visited suggested that I could save some money and buy a Harrison non-sprung base for £150 cheaper than the Hypnos base. Will there be any differences in build quality or padding on top of the divan base between the two companies?

What would you advise as I have no idea?

Thank you.

Hi Ally,

Thank you for your question on our website.  I am afraid that, as neither manufacturer provides specific build and construction details, it is impossible for me to advise on any differences.  However, if you contact each manufacturer directly they may provide you with more information, which will then enable you to make a more informed choice.

Flint Chenille Artisan Mattress Base

A sprung base like our Artisan base will soften the overall feel of a mattress and there are some arguments about these bases prolonging the longevity of the mattress.  This is because there is an extra set of springs to take some of the impact from the sleepers bodyweight.  Alternatively, a platform base like our Contemporary Platform base will firm up the springs slightly, giving an overall slightly firmer feel.

As a side note, if there is nothing wrong with your current base there is no reason to go to the extra expense.

I hope this was helpful and if you require any further information please call the office on 0161 437 4419 where one of our advisers will be happy to help.  Our office hours are 8 am – 8 pm Monday to Friday and 10 am – 4 pm Saturday and Sunday.

Kind Regards

Michaela
