Replacing memory foam mattress

Jacqui asked

Hi John & Ryan, What an amazing website!

so glad i have stumbled across it having given myself headaches for the past 2 weeks trying to find a suitable mattress. I am a little unsure as to what would suit me. I am 5’3″ and weigh 9 1/2 stone. At the moment I have a memory foam mattress but am finding this uncomfortable. I am a side and front sleeper and find myself waking with painful hips and lower back. I am also suffer night sweats. I am looking for something not too soft but also not too firm. I have a budget around £700 but am willing to go a bit more to include a bedstead more suitable for mattress as one I have now is a slated one. Should advise it is a double mattress and bedstead or divan I am looking for. Grateful for any advice you can offer. >

Hi Jacqui,

Thank you for your question.

Memory Foam is notorious for heat retention as it needs your body heat to make it respond which will clearly not assist if you suffer from night sweats.

With your body weight we would recommend a mattress with more of a medium comfort layer plus sufficient support to avoid you experiencing the painful back and hips.

If your current base is in reasonable order there is no need to replace it as all our mattresses can be placed on slatted bases, provided that a suitable barrier is placed between the mattress and the slats.

In your case, I would suggest you look at our Origins Pocket 1500 which will provide you with a medium comfort layer and supportive spring unit.

1300gsm Wool
2750gsm Very Soft Polyester
3500gsm Polyester Pad
4One Inch Foam Insulator Layer
51500 Spun Bond Pocket Springs

If you wish to opt for purchasing a divan base as well, this will fall within your budget.

I trust that this helps, kind regards Julie.
