Replacing water bed – please help
Hi there.
I would appreciate your advice.
Having had a water bed for at least 10 years (and it is in very good condition), I am thinking of changing to a “normal” bed now that my husband has died.
The main reason for deciding to change my bed is because there has always been one drawback of a water bed and that is you cannot really sit up in bed to read etc as you always end up sitting on the base of the bed when the water is dispelled by your weight.
I love the water bed for the fact that you can take the cover off and wash it and it has always surprised me how damp the cover gets underneath.
My concern is that with “normal” mattresses you cannot wash them and I don’t like the idea of them getting mildew or similar if the mattress gets damp from sweat.
I know it sounds a bit extreme but that is how I feel.
I have looked at the comment about the iGel mattress as i have been considering one but now I am not sure.
I have heard about the Hypnos mattresses, which sound good, but again I am not sure.
The cost of a mattress is not really important – I just need advice as it is so long since I have bought a mattress.

I can sympathise with your concern particularly as you are looking to move from a waterbed to a pocket sprung or iGel mattress, the feeling of which will be considerably different to that of your waterbed.
We always advise people to buy a mattress protector and or a mattress topper, both of which can be laundered and will provide protection for the mattress. Before providing any advice as to which bed you ought to purchase, I would advise that you visit some of your local bed stores to establish if there is a particular model that you like.
