serenity backcare uncomfortable

Please could you advise ::Bought a Serenity range backcare ultima with a winter side and summer side.This was a comfortable bed until we turned the bed from winter side to summer,for some reason I have now got pressures at the bottom of my back and find it very difficult to sleep.I have complained to the shop we bought the bed from.Had to give photos of the bed which was also sent to the manufacturer. Now I am waiting for an independent Person to come and look at the bed.This is taking time and doing nothing for my back.The ticket says its 800 firm individual pocket springs (king size) ideal for sleepers requiring orthopaedic mattress.What do think has gone wrong as not a year old???

Hi Elizabeth.

Thanks for your question.

We ourselves don’t construct or retail anything with a summer / winter side. Logically, it tracks that if one side is constructed with wool (winter) and the other side cotton (summer) then it makes sense but for temperature control it doesn’t make sense in the grand scheme.

From what you disclose about your pressures I wouldn’t put this down as a fault with the mattress, more that you’re mismatched with the feel of it. Side sleepers should be avoiding anything too firm in the top layers so it doesn’t cause or exacerbate those pressure point pains. A mattress fault are things where the spring breaks or where there is a dip of more than 1.5 inches. Pressure point pains and comfort are not a mattress fault. As such, I think you might struggle with a resolution from the company you purchased from in your favour. Please see our article here for further information on settlement.

The old information out there was to choose a firm mattress if you have aches and pains but these days it’s quite the opposite – Go for a medium feeling mattress minimum.

With ourselves, I’d advise to look at something more medium in the top layers; Our Origins Pocket 1500 and Artisan Naturals fit the bill perfectly. Both have that medium feeling top layer, I.e, not too soft nor too firm. The Artisan range has the benefit of being constructed with natural fillings; These fillings are what provide a cool sleep surface; Ideal for anyone who does suffer heat issues during sleep.

We would need to know your body weights in order to discuss spring tension;

BodyweightSpring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kgMedium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg UpwardsFirm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call)Soft (1.2mm)
