TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

Should we buy a Silentnight chantilly mattress

Kayley asked

Hi John
We are trying to decide whether to purchase the pocket sprung silentnight Chantilly mattress (2800 springs) with sprung base or hypnos milford mattress £1200 springs) with sprung base both on the dreams website.

We have tried both and cant decide which would would last longer, we will be purchasing the 10 years guarantee both are around the same price and I weigh 9 stone and my husband 11 stone, we are buying a king size and do not want zip links. We both like medium/firm feel mattress and with a sprung base they both accomodate.

What would you recommend is the best value for money?

I have whiplash from a car accident and prefer to lay on my side and suffer from bad back.
we previously had a memory foam topped open coil mattress that’s now ready for the bin but was comfy for a few years

Hi Kayley,

Thanks for your question.

Having had a quick browse of the mattresses I would advise as follows;

The Silentnight Chantilly mattress has memory foam in the construction as well as being a pillowtop mattress. With respect to this we would always advise against pillowtop mattresses as predominantly these are 1 sided mattresses and once the fillings in that in-built layer compress, which we hear often that they do very quickly, there is nothing that can be done with it.

Similarly we receive a lot of feedback that memory foam is just far too hot. The main reason for this is that memory foam relies on heat retention in order to adapt to your body movements.

The Hypnos Milford is a traditional pocket sprung mattress described as a medium comfort level.

With ourselves I’d advise having a look at our Hybrid 4 or our Origins Pocket Reflex 1000 and Artisan 1500.

The Hybrid 4 is a full foam mattress with a completely detachable Laygel Topper. The additional topper will give an extra comfort layer similar to the Pillowtop but with the added benefit that you can turn this topper over to increase the lifespan. Our Hybrid Foam range is great for providing pressure relief.

The Origins Pocket Reflex has a medium spring tension as standard that will accommodate those body weights but with a firmer top layer. Whilst that top layer is firmer we get a lot of feedback that it’s very comfortable at the same time.

Our Artisan 1500 is a medium in the top layers but the firmer end of medium. With the Artisan range you have the benefit of natural fillings in the construction and these fillings provide a cool sleep surface; Ideal for anyone who suffers with heat issues during sleep. The Artisan 1500 has 53% natural fillings.
