Slatted base for Artisan Naturals King Size Mattress

Simon asked
11th July 2018

Hi,
We are buying an Artisan Naturals kingsize mattress and have a slatted base at the moment. The slats are 2 inches wide and 3 inches apart and made of quite springy wood.
Is this going to be ok for the mattress or do I need get a board to put over the slats?
Thanks

Hi Simon,

Thanks for your question.

We advise that the Artisan range is fine to go on to a slatted base as long as those gaps are no bigger than 3 inches. If they are bigger than 3 inches then the mattress will attempt to settle in those gaps causing indentation and damage.

At 3 inches it will be fine but you might prefer to board it over with MDF, plywood or pegboard. Any of these are fine as the mattress, being constructed with natural fillings, is fully breathable. Please browse the article here for further information on this area.

Sprung slats will give the mattress a slightly firmer feel and the board will firm it up slightly more.

The Artisan Naturals is a true medium feeling model in it’s top layers providing a slight sink in sensation but not too much. It has the benefit of being constructed with 85% natural fillings and is also our best selling model.
