hiwe want to go for the artisan range – natural fibres definitely.whilst our weights dictate the spring tension will be medium – we\’re struggling over the final feel part…!our current matress is a microcoil 7 pocket 2100 innegetic latex (which i was surpriesd to learn!) medium spring and has the pillow top style – it\’s 6 years old – but we find it too squishy/bouncy – and often too hot… and we wake each other up moving from side to side and getting in and out..it is on a 15 year old slatted frame – which i now understand is old and needs to go!so we want to buy both the artisan frame and matress in kingsize…we want a firmer feel than currently – but not something that is so firm it would cause aches… i have weak lower back and have pain from being in any position too long so i do tend to move around a lot.. we are both mainly side sleepers…grateful for some opiion and advice!

Hello Nina,

Thank you for your question.

From what you have explained, we would certainly recommend a mattress from our Artisan Range that has 100% natural fillings.   You should not overheat on a mattress that has natural fibres as they are the coolest surfaces to sleep on.

You should also not sleep on a mattress that has firm comfort layers if you both sleep on your sides, as this can cause pressure point pain.

The first four mattresses in our Artisan Range all have a medium comfort layer but have different amounts of natural fillings.   The Artisan 1500 has 50/50 natural fillings and man made fibres, the Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000 and the Artisan Naturals both have 85% natural fillings but the spring units used are different.  The Artisan Naturals having the calico encased pocket springs which are better and are breathable and the Artisan Bespoke 004 has 100% natural fillings.

We would recommend looking at the Artisan Bespoke 004.  This mattress has 100% natural fillings and has a medium feel in those comfort layers, not too soft nor too firm.   We would need to know your body weights in order to advise the correct spring tension for you but we would normally say a medium spring for body weights of between 9st – 16st.

BodyweightSpring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kgMedium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg UpwardsFirm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call)Soft (1.2mm)

With a pocket sprung mattress, you should not feel the other person moving about as the springs are there to move with you individually.

We hope the above is of assistance to you but please do not hesitate to telephone the office should you require any further information – 0161 437 4419.

King regards Julie
