After delivery of the mattress, how soon should I open it? the reason for my question is that’s the advice I’ve been given but I won’t be able to unwrap it for a few weeks after it’s delivery.

Hi Marilyn,

All of our mattresses are delivered by a two-man white glove delivery service. This includes taking the mattress to a room of your choice, unwrapping and removal of all packaging. You can leave a unrolled mattress in its packaging for as long as you wish, within reason! If you’re having a mattress delivered that’s going to sit in its packaging we advise that you unwrap it partially ie one end as soon as possible to let any smells dissipate, usually, the plastic wrapping will give off a smell. Make sure it is in a dry place, a shed or garage is not suitable for a new mattress.

If you are receiving a mass produced rolled mattress like an Eve, Simba, Made or Casper mattress then these will be delivered to you rolled in a box, you can leave them rolled for up to 2 months (dependant on the quality of the foam which most manufacturers don’t divulge) before the material and foams start to become damaged. Bare in mind it may have sat in a warehouse for a number of weeks before reaching you. So we would advise you always open these ASAP. They can take up to 24 hours to get to full size as they have the air sucked out of them and are crushed the rolled. We have a really detailed article here on how to unwrap a boxed mattress.

We hope that helps and if you have any further questions please get back in touch on 0161 437 4419.

All the best
