Topper for hip bursitis

Julie asked
7th April 2016

I have just purchased a medium/firm memory foam mattress which gives me the support I need for arthritis in my lower spine whilst lying on my back. However, I also suffer from hip bursitis and the firmness can aggravate this when lying on my side. Would a mattress topper help with this and what would you suggest?

Hi Julie,

Thanks for your question.

Without being medical experts what we find with your condition is that you need to avoid anything too firm as this will only exacerbate the existing pains.

We would therefore recommend something more medium or soft overall to give pressure relief.

When it comes to toppers you generally follow the rule of pairing the material in the topper with the same material of the mattress so foam with foam, latex with latex etc. As such you could look at pairing it with either our Laygel or Coolblue Topper. Both are very much medium density overall but the Laygel feels ever so slightly softer. Both have a depth of 7.5cm so give you plenty of surface to sink into before you hit the core mattress.

Alternatively, it could be worth looking online at a company called Soak and Sleep. They have a vaster range of toppers than we do with different depths and densities and will be able to better assist you direct about their own products.

I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries please don’t hesitate to contact our office on 0161 437 4419. We are open Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am to 4pm.

Kind Regards, Lee.
