Hi Adrian,

Thank you for your enquiry.  Sorry to hear the i-gel isn’t working out for you.  Back pain and discomfort usually indicate that you are not getting the correct support from your mattress.  It may be that the Atlanta is simply too soft for you and you’re sinking in too much.  Bensons do not disclose the density or their ‘i-gel’ so I can not say with 100% certainty that this is the problem.

At 17 stone we would recommend a firm support, 80kg density for foam based mattresses and a firm spring tension for a traditional pocket sprung mattress.   Without knowing your wife’s body weight I couldn’t recommend anything specific.

BodyweightSpring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kgMedium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg UpwardsFirm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call)Soft (1.2mm)

The advice used to be an orthopaedic or firm mattress for any back problems but this is no longer the case.  With the correct support, the upholstery or comfort layers are personal preference depending on sleeping habits.  If you are a side sleeper then anything too firm can cause pressure pains in the shoulders, hips and knees.

Please contact the office on 0161 437 4419 do discuss which type of mattress may be suitable for both you and your wife.  Our office hours are 8 am – 8 pm Monday to Friday and 10 am – 4 pm Saturday and Sunday.
