TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

Understanding my current problems

Andrew Critchlow asked

Hi
I currently have a pocket sprung mattress and a slatted bed frame with the arched slats. (It’s a silent night 1300 mattress).
I am 12 stone and my partner is 10 stone. I am 5ft 11 and she is 5ft 2.
I am 31 and she is 29 years of age, both fit and active.
We both have not been sleeping well for sometime now and are both getting back neck and shoulder problems.
When we first bought the bed we didn’t think too much about it but in hindsight we should of done a lot more research!
The more I read it seems that a solid base would be better than our currently slatted bed frame? I also thought a firm mattress would be better for both of our backs but not sure if this is accurate?
I don’t mind spending the money but I am concerned the bed will start off great but deteriate over time.
Could you provide me any advice on selecting the correct bed please.
Thanks
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Thank you for your enquiry.

We have tried to find full details of your current mattress online without much success. In fact, we have found it impossible to find any specific details in respect of the construction and upholstery regarding GSM (grams per square metre), which makes providing an opinion as to performance, quality and suitability for you, impossible. Concerning your base, we would always advocate placing some form of barrier, usually thin (3-5mm) MDF over the slats to provide the mattress with a uniform surface upon which to sit and prevent it from dipping into the gaps between the slats. This will also make any mattress placed on it feel slightly firmer.b

BodyweightSpring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kgMedium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg UpwardsFirm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call)Soft (1.2mm)

With your particular body weights you ought to be looking for a mattress with a medium spring tension to provide you with the correct level of support. Dependent upon what type of feel you require from the mattress, you should then look at the upholstery layers, which provide the comfort.  If you require a softer feel in the upholstery you should look at the Origins Comfort 1000, which has a standard medium spring with soft man-made upholstery layers. Alternatively, if you are looking for natural upholstery, the Artisan Luxury may be right for you as this can have the spring tension selected to suit and has the softest comfort layers in that range.

Artisan Naturals

If looking for a medium feel in the upholstery, the Origins Pocket 1500 may suit as this too has a standard medium spring unit with upholstery layers providing an overall medium feel. The natural alternative would be either the Artisan Naturals or Artisan Bespoke 004, both of which have natural upholstery providing a medium feel with the Naturals having 85% and the 004 having 100%.

Finally, if you are looking for that firmer overall feel, the Origins Pocket Reflex 1000 still has the medium spring, but also contains a layer of reflex foam making it feel firmer. The Artisan alternative is the Artisan Bespoke, which has the most natural upholstery in that range providing a slightly firmer feel, even if selected with a medium spring.

We trust that the above is of help to you, but if you require any further advice or guidance in respect of any of our products, please call our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards.
