TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

Upper weight limit on non-Resilience mattresses

Andrea asked

Hello, Great website. Thank you so much for all the honest information. My husband’s weight is around 20 stone (max). My weight is around 15 stone. We are both back sleepers although I start off on front and he starts on side. He sleeps hot and I sleep cold! We have found a wool duvet to be a great solution and so I am interested in the Artisan pocket 2000 for natural components to replace our tired orthopaedic mattress, but am concerned this isn’t the right choice for our weight. I appreciate we would need different tensions in the springs. Would you advise the pocket 2000 or the Resilience range? Or even something else. I want my husband to be supported but am concerned about foam being warm and we haven’t experienced foam so it feels a bit of a leap in the dark. Any advice appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Andrea

Thanks for your question.

The Resilience mattresses would be very firm for yourself at your current body weight, and the overall feel can’t really be altered as it can in the Artisan pocket sprung mattress range.

The Artisan Tailored pocket mattress, would work really well for you both, being able to have a split tension mattress, with medium springs for your side, which we say holds body weights from 10 st up to 17 st, and firm springs for your husbands side, which we say is for body weights of 17 st up to 23 st, this means you will both get the correct support level within the mattress for your body weights.

We describe the Artisan Tailored Pocket mattress as having a medium feel in the top upholstery layers, i.e not too soft or too firm, enough give to be comfortable, but not a mattress you sink all the way into.

John Ryan By Design Artisan Tailored Pocket
11200gsm Blended British Fleece Wool and Cotton.
2Hairproof Cambric Cover
31250gsm Poly Cotton
41500gsm Pure 100% Mohair
52000 Double Tier Spun Bond Pocket Springs (Soft/Med or Firm)

Foams can be a little more heat retentive than any natural fibre filled mattress, and wool is a natural heat regulator as you know from your duvet, so will be a much better option all round.
