Vi Spring mattress comparison to Spink and Edgar

katie asked
1st February 2013

Hi John, Thank you for such an informative and generous website.

We are buying our first bed and have been looking at Vi-Spring – specifically a Regal Superb which seems to be mid-range.

By the time we have selected our size and added additional drawers for storage, the price comes out high – affordable for us but high and much more than we had expected/planned to spend.

Before we commit (we are hoping to buy a bed during the January 2013 sales), I wanted to ask your thoughts about Vi-Spring – firstly whether it is actually worth going for this brand if we can afford it, and secondly how it compares to other high end brands like Somnus, Savoir Beds etc.

Huge thanks and kind regards, Katie .

Hi katie.

I hope this gets to you before you buy.

I do have a severe backlog of enquiries since Christmas break and apologise for the delay.

There is no doubt about it that Vi-Spring and Savoir are the market leaders in the game and if your budget is high enough to buy these products then you are getting a mattress from the very best manufacturers.

The trick to your purchase is to get the most mattress your budget can buy.

Being able to like for like comparisons gives you the information you require to do this but unfortunately, this detail you require will not always be there.

Vi Spring and Somnus (the mid range from the Harrison’s family) are competitors in the marketplace and thus both companies (generally) employ completely different construction methods.

For example, Vi Spring solely use Calico encased pocket springs in either one or two layers, whereas Somnus utilise the spring support of Revolution (spring iin spring) supplemented by layers of mini springs.

When you are looking at high end products such as these you have to look at them in three ways – The Support (Springs) and the upholstery.

(Comfort).

It then becomes easy to do adequate comparisons if you bring the retail price into the equation.

For example, where two mattresses are retailed at £1500 or so, see which is giving you the most mattress for your money.

Overall comfort levels should be relatively the same as mattresses of this ilk can have the spring tensions adjusted to suit the appropriate bodyweight.

I must admit this is an exceedingly simplistic reply to an unnecessarily complicated purchase but it should form the basis of your decision.
