TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

Vi Spring Shetland Superb mattress

Gail asked
17th February 2015

Hello I have just found your very informative web site. I am wondering if you can answer a query for me?

Recently I purchased a Vi Spring Shetland Superb double mattress soft tension (£4,500 in the sale) and have it on a Harrison Brantwood sprung divan base. The mattress is not as soft and springy as it was in the shop whereby it was on display on a Vi spring sprung base. I was advised that this divan base would be perfect but never informed that the mattress would feel different. I would never have spent this money otherwise. I am female, weigh 8 stone and sleep alone. Do you believe it is the base that is causing the problem?

I would be most grateful for any advice. Thank you >

Hi Gail,

Thanks for your question.

I very much doubt its the base causing it to be firmer given its a sprung edge base to begin with.

What I suspect has happened is that you’ve not been warned about the settlement of ‘show beds’.

Due to the fact that there’s many different people of many different body weights jumping on and off them ‘show beds’ can feel significantly softer.

This is why we say there’s only so much you can do trying a bed in a shop, the rest is down to specialist advice and giving your new bed a decent bedding in period.

What I can say is if you need to soften the mattress you can add a mattress topper, maybe a wool one given the shetland is made of natural fibres.

I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries please don’t hesitate to contact our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards, Lee
