ViSpring comparisons

Bruce Bould asked

Im confused! On your site, you directly compare both your Artisan ‘Naturals’ and Artisan ‘Bespoke 04’ mattresses with the ViSpring ‘Regal Superb’. You also directly compare your Artisan ‘Luxury’ mattress with the ViSpring ‘Devonshire’.
It seems odd to compare your most expensive ‘Luxury’ mattress with the ‘Devonshire’ which is available online for only £1,405 (double mattress), when you compare two cheaper mattresses with the ‘Regal Superb’ which is available online for £2,779 (double mattress) – nearly twice the price.
Are you really saying that your most expensive mattress is equivalent to one of Vispring‘s cheaper ones and your cheaper mattresses are the equivalent of ViSpring’s more expensive ones?
I’m very interested in buying one of your mattresses but I find these strange comparisons a bit worrying.

Hi Bruce,

Thank you for your enquiry. It’s a really common question about how to compare mattresses. You need to have the full details of all the GSM, spring gauges and components. We really don’t mean to confuse you, we compare based on the feel, not necessarily the components. In most cases, our mattresses contain far more grammes of upholstery from their comparison models. We do provide a rough guide for feel comparisons which is why the Artisan Natural and Artisan Bespoke 004 are compared to a similar Vi-spring model.

The comparisons made on our site are in terms of overall feel only, not in terms of content or price. The softest mattress in our Artisan range is the Luxury and in terms of overall feel, it is comparable to the Vi-Spring Devonshire, being one of Vi-Spring’s softest products. You will note that the Artisan Luxury contains the highest level of soft upholstery in the Artisan range and is aimed at customers who want that luxurious sink in feeling from the upholstery. Similarly, the Devonshire provides this, but only has wool as the main upholstery element, whereas the Luxury has wool, horsehair, horsetail and wool/cotton.

We do have a full comparison of the current Vi-Spring Mattress range here which compares our range to theirs in far greater detail.

horsehair and horsetail are some of the most expensive upholstery elements to be used in mattresses and whilst comparisons may be made in terms of feel, overall longevity, performance is likely to be far better in the Luxury than the Devonshire. The same principle applies to the other comparisons within the Artisan -v- Vi-Spring ranges. Other elements to bear in mind in the price are the number of rows of hand side stitching and quality of the spring unit. We detail the specific GSM (grams per square metre) of the upholstery contained within all our products, which in most cases exceeds that of other manufacturers including Vi-Spring and affects the overall cost.

The comparisons that we provide are merely a guide to assist customers in trying a product with a similar feel as we are internet based only and there are no retails outlets where you can try our products. We trust that this clarifies the position for you and if you have further queries in this regard, please do not hesitate to call our office on 0161 437 4419.  Our office hours are 8 am – 8 pm Monday to Friday and 10 am – 4 pm Saturday and Sunday.

Kind Regards
