Weight and depth of mattress
I am looking to replace a mattress because it is a double and 10 inches deep and a pocket spring it is impossible for me, as an old person to manoeuver. I know that there are mattresses which are no turn, but they still have to be rotated and given the weight and depth and end of the bed frame this is actually harder to do than attempting to turn it over. What is the lightest and most shallow mattress but of good quality please? This didn’t used to be a problem when mattresses were bonnell springs and 8 inches deep.

Thanks for your question.
Our pocket sprung range of mattresses come in between roughly 30 and 33cm as standard (11-13 inches normally dependent on the range). Our Pocket Sprung ranges are the Origins and Artisan ranges.
Alternatively, you could look at something like Foam or Latex. Our Hybrid range is Foam that gives a very similar sort of sink in sensation to Memory Foam but without the heat issues associated. The Hybrid range come in at 28.5cm so not a massive difference to the pocket sprung ranges.
Our Fusion (100% Natural Latex) range again has a similar feel to Memory Foam but Latex is a cool, fully breathable material that bounces back to it’s shape a lot quicker. If you opted for either the Fusion 6 or 5, these models are just the core mattress itself and come in at 23cm. The Fusion 6 is our firmest feeling model whereas the Fusion 5 is more a medium feel.

In regards to flipping and rotation the Hybrid range are no turn but the detachable toppers can be turned. The Fusion range are fully turnable. To aid with flipping and turning it might be worth considering replacing the base to something like our Contemporary Platform Divan that is a uniform surface rather than the mattress sitting inside a bed frame.
