What is the best mattress for someone with fibromyalgia?
I have a question. I am looking for a new mattress as my 12 year old relaxsan waterlattex is not giving me good sleep any more. I have recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and consequently suffer a great deal of aches and pains in various areas of my body. I cannot stand springs!
That may well be because I’ve slept on cheaper sprung models in the past but they’ve left a bad taste in my mouth, so to speak. I have tried my parents Tempur mattress (now 20 years old) and find it quite hard and my brothers new latex mattress (similar to my current one) and this also feels hard. I am approx 12 stone and use a double bed, slatted base. Any advice would be excellent. I haven’t tried beds in stores so far since this seems pointless, it’s not like they’ll let me sleep in it!

Fibromyalgia is a debilitating condition where any kind of pressure on the body is excruciatingly painful. I would agree with you that in this instance a spring support is not the way to go down.
As you have had your Relaxsan mattress for 12 years or so it is obvious that it is time for a replacement. I would go down a similar route for replacement looking at our Hybrid 4, it’s medium support (70 Kg density) with a soft topper to inhibit any undue pressure on your body. If you wanted an idea of how this mattress will feel you could try the Tempur Cloud 27 in a showroom.
We wouldn’t recommend this or any foam based mattress on a slatted base. Just as the foam contours to your body it also moulds to the slats. If you don’t want to change your base you could board over the slats with a 3-5 mm piece of MDF or Plywood.
