TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

What mattress

Hi G asked
30th July 2018

I have tried 3 mattressed over the past 2 years and I am really struggljng to get the right one.
I am 5’4″ and 9stone 4lbs. I am 42 and am now feeling a lot more aches and pains than I used to. Most mattresses seem to feel ok when I try them but I am waking up aching all over- shoulders, lower and mid back. I also get very hot during the night, so it seems latex and memory foam are not right. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Gillian,

Thanks for your question.

Anyone who identifies as a hot sleeper should be looking at natural fillings as those are what provide a cool sleep surface, generally more so than latex or foams.

Our Artisan range are traditional pocket sprung mattresses with those natural fillings.

As you don’t really disclose what types of mattresses you’ve tried previously it’s difficult to recommend anything definitively. However, you can’t generally go wrong with a true medium in the comfort layers, providing a slight sink into the top layer but not too much.

At your body weight you are borderline between a Soft and Medium spring; We do tend to find from speaking to customers that above 9st they generally prefer a Medium spring to get a bit more support.

BodyweightSpring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kgMedium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg UpwardsFirm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call)Soft (1.2mm)

Our Artisan Naturals and Bespoke 004 are both true mediums in the top layer, providing that slight sink but not too much. The Naturals is constructed with 85% natural fillings whereas the Bespoke 004 has a full 100% natural fillings; Hot sleepers should be fine on either of these models with either of those percentages of fillings.

Please bear in mind that any new mattress will feel firmer to start with as the spring system nor the fillings have been compressed. We do advise that you need to give any new mattress between 4 and 6 weeks to adjust to it. If at that stage you’re still finding the mattress too firm then look at adding a mattress topper
