Will Tempur Cloud Sublime fix hip pain?

Peter asked
12th June 2015

Hello
My wife and I are looking for a king size mattress to go on a frame base. We are both 5’7″, my wife 9 st and me 10.5 st. My wife has hip pain and is an unsettled sleeper and I sleep on my side, hardly moving and wake up with severe aches throughout my body, especially my arm.
We currently have a Dunlopillo mattress about 13 yrs old.
We have been looking at Tempur Cloud Sublime medium to soft which is expensive considering we may not like the sunk in feel. We have also looked at the ikea range, specifically Hesseng £600 and Hyllestad £300.
A major influence on our final choice is that the mattress must bend enough to get around several 90 degree bends in 32 inch wide corridors/doorways, which is one of the reasons we cannot go for a divan base.
Any guidance and suggestions would be welcome!
Thank you
Peter

Hi Peter,

Thank you for your enquiry.  You don’t say what model your mattress is but it would appear that your current Dunlopillo mattress is to firm for you, causing pressure pains.  As you are no doubt aware foam based mattresses are a lot more flexible than the traditional pocket sprung mattress, which makes it easier to manoeuvre them when there is limited access.  We do have a couple of options available that may be suitable for you and your wife.

Hybrid 4

Our Hybrid 4, comparable with the Tempur Cloud 27 if you want to try it in a showroom to see if you like the progressive sink, is a medium support with a softer topper.  Both the core mattress and the topper are fully turnable, which can prolong the lifetime of your mattress and when the topper is no longer as responsive as it is as new, simply replace it.  Much cheaper than replacing the whole mattress.

Fusion 3

The Fusion 3, comparable with the Dunlopillo Royal Sovereign, is also a medium support with a replaceable, turnable soft topper for that extra comfort.  Our Fusion range is made with 100% natural latex.

We wouldn’t recommend any foam based mattress on a slatted base.  All foam bases mattresses, whether hybrid foams like our Hybrid range, latex foam like our Fusion range or memory foam require a solid and consistent surface and which removes the issue of the slats causing dipping or damage to your mattress.  Just as the mattress conforms to your body, they also mould around the slats.  The slats can also nip and bite the mattress fabric over time causing tears and snags but by boarding over with a 3 – 5 mm piece of MDF or Plywood and using say a cheap duvet or blanket to cover the base you can avoid having your slats damage the mattress.
