TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

Woolroom vs button and sprung vs your mattresses

Andrea asked

Thank you for your amazing, informative website. I’ve been trying to compare natural mattresses and find it difficult to really know what determines quality. I’m aiming to spend around 1000 pounds for a new mattress, and have narrowed down to your mattresses, button and sprung, or the wool room. The key difference seems to be whether it is turnable (B&S mattresses aren’t), and the number of pocket springs. Your mattresses have far fewer springs for the same price (3000 for woolroom, 5800 at B&S, or 1600 for the artisan natural). Is it simply a case of ‘more springs=more comfort” as B&S claim, or are there other things that I’m missing in the comparison? I love that your website provides the real breakdown for the fillings, but given that other sites don’t, it’s tough to know how they measure up. I’d appreciate any advice you can offer.

Hi Andrea,

Thank you for your question.

We always advise that a mattress should be turned and rotated on a regular basis to allow the whole of the sleeping surface to be used and also to allow the fillings inside the mattress to settle evenly.   With a non-turn mattress you cannot do this and so the mattress will not last as long.

With regard to pocket springs, most bed manufacturers base their spring count on a kingsize mattress.  The maximum amount of springs therefore in a kingsize mattress is about 2000. Any more than that and they are likely to either be very small springs or springs within a  spring.  I have attached a link to our website which explains all about pocket springs and how they work.

As you are looking for a mattress that has natural fillings, I would recommend looking in our Artisan Range of mattresses.  Each of those mattresses have different comfort layers which therefore gives the mattress either a soft comfort layer, a medium or a firm.   The first four mattresses in this Range all have a medium comfort layer but different amounts of natural fillings.

The Artisan Luxury has 100% natural fillings but has a soft comfort layer, the Artisan Bespoke again has 100% natural fillings but has a firm comfort layer and the Artisan Bespoke 002 has 100% natural fillings and has a medium comfort layer but as it has a dual layer of springs, this gives the mattress a softer spring tension.

In order to advise you as to which of our mattresses would suit you, we would need to know the body weights of the people who are going to sleep on the mattress and also how you would like that mattress to feel in those comfort layers.   We would, therefore, invite you to telephone our office whereby we would be able to gather all information from you and advise which of our products would suit you best.

We hope this is of assistance to you and look forward to speaking with you in due course – 0161 437 4419

King regards Julie
