Brand new too soft Harrison Bed

Michele Davey asked
7th March 2016

Hello, I’m looking for a bit of advice please. My husband and I have just bought a brand new 12700 Spring Pocket Harrison bed. He has the medium firmness and I chose the gentle. Having tried the mattress out in the shop the gentle felt right. However having slept on it for 2 nights now I feel it may be slightly too soft while my husbands side is slightly too hard. I think the problem is that I’m inbetween the two choices and require a soft/medium firmness. The bigger problem is that our mattress is non-refundable and was extremely expensive so getting a new mattress at the moment is not an option. I’m hoping you’d be able to advise me on how to make my soft matress slightly firmer. We have the mattress on a divan base. I weight about 10 stone after having my last baby (but I am currently working with a trainer to lose a stone). My weight is normally 9 stone to 9.5 stone. Will losing weight help with my problem? What can I do in the meantime to help? Thank you in advance for your time. I found your website very helpful and will recommend it to my friends.

Hi Michele,

Thanks for your question.

I am sorry to hear that you are finding you new bed uncomfortable. Our advice to anyone is that you need to use a new mattress at least 60 days before deciding upon whether it is right for you, this is why we offer our love it or return it guarantee. This is because, a new product will never feel the same as one you have tried in a shop, because that display model may have been there for some time and a great number of people may have tried it out, which has an effect on the overall feel.

If you find that after the above period, the mattress still feels too soft for you and too firm for your husband there are two things could try. For you, I would suggest placing some 5-10mm boarding under the mattress on your side, which will make if it feel firmer. Losing the weight you refer to will not make that much difference to the feel. As far as your husband is concerned, I would suggest buying a mattress topper to soften the feel.

If the problem is still bothering you, please give us a call and we can guide you to something in our range.

I trust the above advice is of help to you.

Kind regards,
