We have a 3 year old pocket sprung mattress which seems to have developed a ridge down the middle. We both sleep to wards the edges of the bed. We have turned it regularly but when you turn into the middle of thd bed there seems to be a ridge as if you need to sleep on the middle of the bed to flatten it all out. We have a Carleton 1500 pocket divan made by higrove beds, unfortunatly we had the same experience with a sealy bed but we only had that for a couple of months . We are of standard height and weight and not sure what to look for or buy in a mattress, do all pocket srung mattress go this way.Advice desperatly need as beds are not cheap to buy,can you help?

Hi Sheena,

All mattresses will suffer with a level of settlement, even if turned and rotated regularly and there is an industry tolerance for this. However, in your case the main issue seems to be that the central part of the mattress is not getting any usage and as such, remains as it did when first delivered, manifesting itself as a ridge. This is a problem which usually occurs with larger beds such as king size, extra king size and super king size. In a good quality mattress, it is less likely to be obvious as the settlement on the sides used tends to be less noticeable and within the tolerance.

I do not think it is an issue with the base, but more an issue of obtaining a mattress suited to your body weights that will not over settle in the sleep areas and provide you with the support and comfort required.

In order for me to recommend a specific product, full details of your body weights, preferred feel and budget would be required.

If you require some further advice or guidance, please call our office.

Kind regards Julie
