TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

Artisan naturals mattress or another?

Jonathan Farmer asked
6th January 2017

I have been sleeping on a Vi-Spring for the last five years but have heard some good things about your mattresses and I have spent a long time reading your website in the evenings. Calling in the day has proved problematic though. I am looking for some help in choosing a second mattress for the spare room. I will be sleeping on it for the next six months or so, during the latter stage of my wife’s pregnancy and after the baby is born, after which it will become a guest bed. I am 5ft9 and weigh 70kg. I tend to sleep on my side or my back. I had thought of getting a small double but it doesn’t seem to be any cheaper than a double so not sure there is too much point if we have the space? Money is not the overriding object but a factor of sorts by the time a base and headboard is brought into play. I would prefer to buy predominantly natural fibres as it just seems like the mattress will have greater longevity. But would it be best to stick most of the money into a mattress and get a cheaper base or rein it in a bit on the mattress and get a decent base/headboard? It would be great if you could offer me a few hints and ideally your personal recommendation given my size, weight, circumstances etc.

Hi Jonathan,

Thank you for your enquiry.

We do appreciate your preference for natural fibres, however, we will provide details of two of our products, which will suit your requirements for consideration. In terms of whether it is better to spend more on a mattress and economise in respect of the base and headboard, we would advise that the mattress is the most important element of a bed. In our ranges, there is no difference in price between a standard double and a 4ft mattress (small double).

Origins Comfort 1000

The first product we would suggest you look at is the Origins Comfort 1000, which has a standard medium spring unit together with soft man-made upholstery, making it ideal for people who predominantly sleep on their side. This would be ideal in the long term as a guest bed and represents excellent value for money. The natural alternative would be the Artisan Luxury, which can have the spring tension selected to suit (medium) and has the softest natural upholstery in the Artisan range, again ideal for side sleepers.

Whilst we do appreciate that you will be using the bed initially, it may be that the price of the Luxury may turn out to be an unnecessary expense bearing in mind it’s future use as an occasional guest bed. We trust that this helps, but if you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards.
