Choice of mattress for light sleeper

Hello
Could you confirm if your Origins Pocket 1500 king size zip and link mattress would be suitable for me? I am 8st and my husband is approximately 12st. We currently have a Sealy Diamond Latex Anniversary Collection Posturepedic mattress which we got in 2013 and I have suffered with a sore neck and shoulder almost since we got it. I have tried different pillows to no avail so am concluding the mattress is the issue. We have a wooden bed frame with slats. Your mattress fits with my budget but I would appreciate your advice before I make the purchase.

Hi Samantha,

Thanks for your question and we’re sorry to hear that you’re struggling with your Sealy mattress. It does sound from your description that it’s too firm for you both. As in there is not enough give to accommodate your slight frame which happens with Posturepedic mattresses that are really firm.

There’s a very strange thing that happens when pocket springs and latex are combined which I discovered years ago with some designs. Even if the mattress-guide/” title=”spring”>spring is medium and the latex is soft the overall feel of the mattress seems much firmer than the individual parts. I’ve put this down to latex being really responsive/consistent and when placed on top of springs acts as almost a board. Our Origins Latex is always classed as a firm for this very reason, even though the spring is a medium gauge. It’s quite confusing.

The other key identifier of your mattress being too firm is the term Posturepedic which nearly always means ‘firm as concrete’, especially at your light weights!

I think the Origins 1500 would be an ideal choice, soft in the very top layer but a medium overall feel. It will allow you to sink slightly but provide adequate support for your weights. Zip and link are an excellent idea to reduce transference if one of you is a bit of a wriggler it doesn’t affect the other then!
