Comparable mattress to Staples "Cambridge"?

Daniel Cheung asked
28th September 2016

My wife and I recently had the chance to sleep on a Staples “Cambridge” (1000 pocket spring) mattress that seems to be out of production now. We loved it – but truth to be told, coming from a foam mattress, anything firmer is great.
Can’t seem to find this model anymore, but I was hoping that you could suggest a similar model in your range.
Other details I could gather from the mattress:
wool
– “pocket extra”
-no turn, rotate regularly
-suitable for beadsteads (we have a divan)

Hi Daniel,

I put the name of the Staples product in my search on the internet and found several retailers still selling this product, although I have to say that the description of the construction and upholstery is vague in the extreme. I note it does state it is a medium feel mattress and this will, therefore, be aimed at people between 10 and 17 stones in weight. It also states that the upholstery is sumptuous layers of wool on top of the springs and as you say is one-sided

BodyweightSpring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kgMedium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg UpwardsFirm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call)Soft (1.2mm)

Because the description is so vague it is impossible to do a like for like comparison as there are no details of the levels of that upholstery in terms of GSM (grams per square metre). We do not make a mattress which contains wool only as upholstery, although our Artisan range does contain natural upholstery layers and are double sided providing greater longevity in terms of wear and tear.

If you require any further guidance or advice once you have viewed the Artisan range, please call our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind regards
