Mattress and divan for a side sleeper and a back/side sleeper?
We currently have a king size Warren Evans mattress, which we believe is a medium leading towards a firmer rating, and it is on a wooden slatted base. It is getting old and indented and we are looking to replace it with a new mattress with a divan with drawers. I am 9 stone and my husband is 13 stone. I sleep on my back and my husband sleeps both on his back and sides. We found the current mattress comfortable but we vividly remember the experience of staying in a hotel in the UK which had a very comfortable quality mattress, which was not soft, but gave us a wonderful sinking in feeling but we were fully supported as we slept. Which mattress and divan combination should we look at ? Thanks. Melissa

Thank you for your enquiry. Most hotels have medium comfort layers and medium spring tension as these support a wider range of body weights. They then add a mattress topper to give that sink in feel. For that sink in feel without a mattress topper, you would need something that is soft in the upholstery. This we would not recommend for sleeping on your back as your body will sink too far and could lead to misalignment of your spine. We would not recommend anything too firm in the upholstery layers for side sleepers as this can cause pressure pains in the shoulders, hips and knees.
In our Origins range, I would recommend the Origins Pocket 1500 which has a medium spring tension as standard and medium man-made comfort layers and has a 3 year guarantee. This is paired with the Origins Platform base giving it a good all-round medium overall feel. In our Artisan range, I would recommend either the Artisan Naturals or the Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000. Both of these mattresses have medium feel comfort layers and are constructed with 85% natural fibres. The Artisan Naturals has Calico pocketed springs and has a 10-year guarantee. Both these mattresses are paired with the Artisan sprung base which will soften the overall feel of a mattress.
