Problems with Slumberland mattress

Sheila asked
5th January 2013

Hi.

A few months ago my mother (92) bought a double Slumberland ‘Burnham Posturelux’ mattress from Dreams (!) in their ‘sale’.

She bought a new base , dearer than the Slumberland one, as well but it is a different make as she wanted a lower one.

The mattress is still on their website at an incredible non-sale price.

It is a non-turn mattress and hollows have started to appear already – my mother is a small person and not overweight.

She says it is still comfortable at the moment.

I don’t know anything about the fillings.

Any thoughts, comments, advice from you about this mattress would be very welcome.

Thank you.

Hi Sheila,

Thanks for your question.

We’d always advocate steering clear of non-turn mattresses where possible. The reason for this is that you can’t flip the mattress and in turn can’t increase the lifespan of the mattress. As such the majority of our mattresses are fully turnable with only a few being non-turn.

Please note that any fibre filled mattress will take time to settle. A natural dip is anything up to 1.5″. Anything above this would be classed as unnatural and this is where the mattress fails and is subsequently covered under a warranty. The mattress will need to have the entire sleep surface slept on to iron out any ridges or dips. Please see our article here for further information on correct care and maintenance.  Please see the article here for further information on settlement.

As you’ve disclosed you don’t know anything about the fillings it’s difficult to comment.

My best advice would be to contact the retailer to see what they advise.
