Replacing Vi Spring mattresses

Anna asked
18th August 2014

Hi, i purchased vi spring Gatcombe soft mattress and then found out that my partner requires medium tension as soft is too uncomfortable for him. Now this vi spring cost me thousands so how can i now fix this major issue(we are moving in together and likewise, i cannot sleep on his medium mattress as he bought it second hand and is worn-my bum falls in to it so my back hurts immediately). His mattress is also vi spring so we have spent lots of money on these mattresses and very stressed out now prospect that we have to spend more money to buy new one?

What to do now?

Please help!

Thank you!

Hi Anna,

Thanks for your question.

We would need to know some further information in order to discuss suitable models;

We would need to know body weights, sleeping habits and preferred feel in the top layers as all these do factor in to a purchase.

BodyweightSpring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kgMedium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg UpwardsFirm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call)Soft (1.2mm)

The Vi-Spring Gatcombe is now discontinued but close to the Vi-Spring Shetland, which is a soft mattress. As such this is comparable with our own Artisan Luxury. The Luxury is our softest mattress in that top layer and now compares with the Vi-Spring Devonshire.

The Artisan Luxury is constructed with 100% natural fillings; The full breakdown of it’s components are below;

John Ryan By Design Artisan LuxuryVi-Spring Devonshire
11200 GSM British Fleece Wool and Cotton 600gsm British Fleece Wool
2Hairproof Cambric Cover1700gsm Devonshire Fleece Wool
31200gsm Pure Horsehair NA
4500gsm Pure WoolNA
51200gsm Pure HorsetailNA

The base the mattress goes on to can make a difference to the feel; A sprung base will give the mattress a slightly softer feel whereas a solid platform top base or slatted base will give the mattress a slightly firmer feel.

I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries please don’t hesitate to contact our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards, Lee.
