Sprung-base or topper?
hi there,i\’m thinking of purchasing one of your pocket sprung double mattresses. however i currently have a bed frame with slats and lots of things stored under the bed so i don\’t really want a divan as i have nowhere to store all those things and a 4 drawer divan would be impractical. if i were to put mdf over the slats and also bought a topper would this be as comfortable as a divan??also i asked you earlier about your 3 year guarantee on the mattress i\’m looking at…and you said if it were looked after properly it was likely to last beyond 3 years. i was under the impression that mattresses lasted about 15 or at least 8 years?? is this not the case?thanks very much ?

If a mattress has a guarantee period, it is right to assume that with proper care and maintenance, it will last longer than that period. It is incorrect to assume that all mattresses will last between 8 & 15 years as the quality of construction and materials used will differ from mattress to mattress.
The rule of thumb is usually, the more you pay the better quality and longevity you will get.
As far as your slatted base is concerned, we would recommend the placing of thin (3-5mm) MDF over the slats to provide the mattress with a uniform surface upon which to sit and prevent ridging occurring as a result of the mattress dipping into the gaps between the slats.
The application of a topper on top of the mattress will only serve to provide a softer feel to the mattress and not affect the support provided by the base. If it is your intention to place the topper under the mattress and on top of the MDF, this will not replicate the feel of a sprung base.
Whilst we note that storage is essential, which is why you are not looking at a divan with drawers, we wonder if you have considered an ottoman base, which will provide much more storage that 4 drawers and will accommodate almost all that you have stored under the bed at present.
