Squeaky mattress help!
Our matress is about 5 years old and it squeaks when you get into bed, turn over etc. I thought it was to do with my husbsbds weight. He is approx around 24-25 stone. I read that it could also be that the bed frame hasn’t been put together securely. The frame is solid oak.

Right, squeaky mattresses, what a nightmare. Every movement, toss, turn leads to that irritating noise that disturbs your sleep and makes you reach for the spare room. In my opinion, 9 times out of 10 the squeaking bed is usually caused by the base. You say you have a solid oak frame which is no doubt fixed together with some corner pieces and screws no doubt or allen bolts. I could hazard a guess that since having it put together you haven’t tightened the bolts or screws since? When wood gets older it still continues to dry out and warp slightly. That is why with wooden bed frames you need to ensure that you periodically tighten the fixings. What a fuss eh, but that’s, unfortunately, one of the drawbacks of lovely looking wooden bases.
Given the weight of your husband, it could be the mattress. However, they only tend to squeak if the spring unit rusts or corrodes, usually due to sweat and or if the springs compress so much they end up rubbing together, which again is quite unlikely if you have a quality mattress.
My advice would be try tightening the base first, it’s far cheaper than a new mattress. If you have no joy please get back in touch as a mattress to suit a 24-25 stone sleeper is quite a specialist area which some expert advice could save you from purchasing an unsuitable mattress.
