Tolerance measure

Ian Moyes asked
11th March 2016

Hi, Does the industry have a tolerance measure that would indicate whether a mattress has mrerly “settled” or is indeed faulty. I bought a bed from dreams and the mattress cost in the region of £800. There are large hollows either side of the mattress and I think it is faulty but need to be in a position to prove it before I can approach the seller.
Thank you

Hi Ian,

Thank you for your question

The furniture industry does not have an accepted tolerance of sagging because it depends on the materials and support unit. This can be quite subjective as it relies on you turning and rotating the mattress where possible and making sure that your bodyweights don’t exceed 18 stone the accepted maximum single weight sleeper for a mattress. It also depends on the age of the mattress. A number of guarantees only work on a proportional basis where if found in your favour you receive a portion of what the beds expected worth at that time is, rather than a straight out swap or replacement.

We have an article on settlement here which details it further. We would advise you contact dreams, send photos and use a straight ruler to show the scale and depth. Let us know how you get on though Ian.
