Vi Spring versus Harrisons mattress

Karl asked

Hi We’ve been looking for a replacement king size mattress and have narrowed it down after going to John Lewis’s to 2. A Natural Collection 3000 and a Vi-spring Dartmoor superb. However after reading the web I was interested in your Artisan 1500 kingsize and to see how they compare. This is a 2 sided mattress as well which is a bonus. We currently have a SilentNight Memory foam/pocket spring which has sagged. My wife struggles with overheating with the foam so we were looking at a natural fibre layer over pocket springs. I’m 13 stone and my wife is 8-9 stone (not sure exactly – don’t want to ask 🙂 ). We both like a firm mattress – leaning towards Medium firm and the initial softness of a thick upholstery layer. Price range is round about the £700-900 range. I noticed that Harrisons make the John Lewis beds and I wondered if you had done a comparison yet?

I’d love to be able to persuade my wife to buy a mattress we haven’t actually tried (though we have a solid base and all the trial ones were on sprung bases, not sure if that makes a difference). Any help would be great regards Karl >

Hi Karl,

We are unable to provide a comparison to the John Lewis Naturals Collection 3000 as they do not provide enough detail in respect of the build of this mattress, particularly in respect of the fillings and the specific GSM (grams per square metre) of the same.

Given your budget, the only mattress within our range which may be suitable is the Artisan 1500, the specifications of which are on our site. This could be ordered in a split tension to provide the right feel for both given the 4 to 5 stone weight differential. This retails at £965.00 and can be used on the platform base you have, however, this is likely to make the feel slightly firmer than if it were placed on a sprung topped base.

Your body weight determines your spring tension subjectively, please see the chart below.

BodyweightSpring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kgMedium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg UpwardsFirm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call)Soft (1.2mm)

I trust that this helps, if you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419

Kind Regards Guy
