TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

Which of your matresses to choose (not explained in your article)

David Denness asked
22nd June 2018

I understand that choice of mattress is dictated by your weight – I am 7.8 stone and my wife is 10.5 stone, trying to be 9.5 stone. You also say that choice depends on, I think your words were something like “how you want the mattress to feel”. What does that mean? I do not know the different ways a mattress can feel, other than comfortable and supportive. How does this help me choose which of your mattresses to choose?
The only thing I have learnt from your faq’s is that I should choose calico-pocketed springs, not poly…pocketed. Which of your mattresses do not have calico pockets?
Question 2
I know it would be bad to do, but my wife wants a French style bed and these seem invariably to have a slatted base. If we decide to have a slatted base (I hope we won’t), would that affect which mattress to choose?

Hi David,

Thanks for your question, I’d be happy to help.

You are completely right in saying your body weight determines the spring tension. At the body weights, you have provided you are a soft spring tension and your wife will be a medium spring tension. From there you can pop this to the back of your mind as this will not change unless your body weight increases over nine and a half stone mark and vice versa for your wife.

From there, each mattress has a unique comfort layer which can give you a soft/medium/firm feel. Your sleeping habits and personal preference determine this. This is why we ask ‘How do you want your mattress to feel?’ For example, if you are a side/back sleeper we wouldn’t advise anything too firm in the upper layers as this could potentially develop pressure point pains.

Our Origins line don’t use Calico Encased Pocket Springs, they use traditional Pocket springs

Our Artisan line predominantly uses Calico Encased Pocket Springs, although the Artisan 1500 and the Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000 use traditional pocket springs.

Our traditional pocket spring mattresses are suitable for slatted bases, as long as the gaps between the slats are under three inches. If the gaps are over this we would advise placing MDF/ply over this to create a uniform platform for the mattress to sit on.

I hope this helps.
