Hi Sam,

Thanks for your enquiry,

Shop bought mattresses simply can’t cope, with heavier body weights, and retailers will only ever guarantee a mattress for an individual sleeper of 18 stone. Above that weight limit and any faults are ‘your fault’ in their eyes.

We think this is highly unfair which is why we have designed our own Resilience range that can accommodate up to 30 stone without immediate failure.

We have also partnered them up with removable turnable toppers which are always the first part to go in such a mattress, the top layer.

Therefore knowing that this will fail quicker than say a lighter sleeper, having a removable part of the mattress means you can just replace part of it after so many years, rather than the entire thing.

Sadly when you’re looking at a mattress for heavier weighted sleepers it will never carry the 10 year guarantee as the stresses put on these mattresses are far greater. What we have tried to do is minimise the need to replace the entire mattress giving you as many sides as possible to even the wear out with.

Our range will be two sided too, so you can turn and spread out the wear. Essential for this type of mattress.

Lastly, most heavyweight mattresses are just super firm, with minimal upholstery or comfort layers. Lazy manufacturing if you ask me, and because manufacturers know you can’t use standard soft fillings ie wool, which will compress too quickly. Rather than design mattresses which feature more resilient upholstery most larger sleeper manufacturers just use rock hard spring units and really dense cheap foam. Hiding the problem that whilst this will take your weight you’re not exactly going to be sleeping in heaven. They then only guarantee them for 12 months, which stings a bit doesn’t it!?

As for bases, most mattress bases are only guaranteed for up to 35 stone in weight, meaning you may struggle. However, I have put a question to one of the potential manufacturers about how we could improve a base specification to meet 55-60 stone. Whether this be more bracing or a base that comes in 4 parts for example to give more rigidity.

The new range hopefully will be out in the next 8 weeks all being well, I’m not sure if the bases will be designed that quickly but we will try. I know that probably doesn’t give you the answer you need but hopefully it gives you some helpful tips for finding your next mattress if it isn’t with us.

All the best Sam and do let me know how you get on.
