A customer asked

I need a single sprung edge divan base for a new Respa matress. Its pocket sprung and is not as soft as the shop model, it was on a sprung base and If I get a sprung base it might help. I tried it on my vi spring sprung base and it still didnt feel as soft as the shop model. will the comfort improve over time?

Aslo my vi spring bed has a funny sickly sweet smell which I cant eradicate, its been examined twice by an independant comapany and no one can find the cause. Do you think I have redress under the lifetime warranty in that the natural fibres are not allowing enough ventillation as they state?

Hi Jan.

You have to bear in mind that shop models have been tried and tested by hundreds of people and can at times be completely broken in and therefore can indicate what it will be like in a few months time.

Your comment on the Vi Spring mattress is a bit more perplexing.  It would have helped a little if you had mentioned the exact model in order that I could have gone through layer by layer to see what the cause could possibly be.  The final layers on the bulk of Vi Spring mattresses is usually a wool and cotton blend and there is no particular smell associated with this.  Lambswool does have a smell associated (lanolin) but this is certainly not offensive at all.  In fact, I personally think it is pleasant and a sign of the purity of wool used.

There is absolutely no question of hindered ventilation and I  am taking it for granted that you will be airing out your bed as matter of course, turning and rotating etc.  Some waterproof protectors will have a detrimental effect to the mattress (preventing airflow) but aside from this I am as stumped as you are.
