A customer asked

Hi there, I suffer with a spinal disc prolapse and sciatic pain which is at its worse at night. I am looking for a new mattress as I have been advised to purchase an orthopaedic one and wondered what your experienced opinion on what manufacturer, pocket spring count, etc etc would you recommend?

I am looking for quality but not overly expensive... something that will last. I have had beds in the past that dip at the sides or in the middle after only a few months and would prefer to avoid this happening again. Any help/suggestions you can provide will be most helpful. .

Hi Nicola.

Not too sure what disc prolapse actually is (sounds unbelievably painful).

If your advice for a firm mattress (orthopaedic) was from your back practitioner then I cannot disagree.

However, I would be inclined to base your decision on your bodyweight (please advise) and they tweak that decision to take into account your requirements.

if you find you get relief from a firm support (ie the floor) then we can provide you with a mattress that offers this support but also with an element of comfort.

This is achieved by ensuring the spring tension is the correct one for your body weight and from there, as you have been advised look for the firmest mattress in the comfort layers.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

I hope this helps if you have any further questions please don't hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419

John and Ryan.
