Comparisons to Vi Spring models?

A customer asked

We are currently looking at replacing our present mattress/divan.

We have found your site and after considering much of the valuable information you provide were endeavouring to establish which of the beds in your range would best suit on needs/budget.

I realise that while direct comparisons are not possible, I have noted you reference Vispring products from time to time.

We have been to J Lewis and tested out some of their display units.

For the purpose of theoretical comparisons and in the hope you may be able to recommend a JR alternative these are the units we considered; ViSpring; The Heligan Superb.

This is the top end of the range, defined as Medium but very comfortable.

ViSpring; The Hansbury Superb.

This appears to be a level below the Heligan again defined as Medium but not as comfortable.

John Lewis Natural Collection Cotton 3000.

While not in the same league (in terms of luxury or pricing) as the Vispring, this is nonetheless a fairly decent mattress.

Thanks for your assistance.

Hi Anne,

All of the mattresses you refer to are made exclusively for John Lewis by either Vi-Spring or in the case of the Natural Collection, Harrisons.

Unfortunately, unlike Vi-Spring models made for general sale in furniture stores, the two you have detailed do not come with any specific details of the upholstery layers by way of GSM (grams per square metre), making any form of comparison impossible and the same applies to the Natural Collection.

When making a recommendation for a mattress we take into account body weights, preferred feel and of course, budget.

How much to spend on a double mattress? What can I expect for my money?
Under £500 Will not get you much at best a 13.5 gauge open coil/cage sprung with a thin polyester layer or a solid foam mattress.
£500 Entry level spunbond springs with some form of synthetic upholstery. Usually one sided mattresses.
£750 The beginnings of a basic pocket springs unit with 800 – 1000 count. No substantial amount of filling other than foams and synthetic materials. Two sided models.
£1000 Should get you away from most low ranges and into the mid-range pocket spring models.
£1250 Should get you a decent pocket sprung mattress with some Natural Fibre content.
£1500 Should get you many manufacturers mid-range models with Natural Fibres
£1500-£2000 Should get you a Hand Made primarily Natural Fibre Quality Mattress
£2000+ You should expect 100% Natural Fibres and Traditional Hand Made Construction Method.
£5000+ A Bespoke Hand Made Sleep System, High-end Spring Units & Featuring the Worlds Most Luxurious Natural Fibres.

Some of our Artisan range are comparable to some of the Vi-Spring range and represent excellent value for money.

I would suggest that you view these models and for further advice as to the suitability of any of them for you, please call our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards Gary
