Problems with Tempur mattress
I currently have a tempur mattress and we have found awful and uncomfortable.
We have been told by our physio as we now have bad backs to get a 3000 sprung mattress with a memory foam top.
Please can you advise >
Hi Jim,
Thank you for your question.
Unfortunately, without specific information regarding your body weights, preferred feel and budget, it makes it difficult to provide any specific advice.
It used to be said that if you had a mattress-for-a-bad-back/" title="bad back">bad back then you needed a firm mattress. This is not however the case. What is required is proper support and then good comfort from the upholstery layers. The support is dictated by body weight which is why we need to have the above information in order to recommend a mattress for you.
Bodyweight | Spring tension |
---|---|
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
One statement that seems to haunt us is “my chiropractor told me to look for an orthopaedic or firm mattress to help my bad back“. We have investigated this to find out why certain Chiropractors recommend firm beds. The response has been that firmness is thought to help support the body. This is where the confusion starts; firmness and support are two different things!

Kind regards Julie
