A customer asked

My husband and I purchased a new mattress just before Christmas - it's a SilentNight Pocket Latex 2000, which is a pocket sprung mattress with a built-in latex 'pillowtop' topper. It's super comfy and since I tend to sleep cold it hasn't given me any problems, but my husband has been suffering terribly with profuse sweating! I've read that a cotton or wool mattress protector might help to create a breathable space between him and the mattress - is that right? What would you recommend?

Hi Lisa,

Thanks for your question.

From what limited information we can see there is no specification provided around the latex used, therefore it becomes difficult to comment.

It would also depend on what is being used in the pillowtop as you're in direct contact with that fabric. Latex in general should be a cool material but this does depend on the blend being used as well as the percentage.

A mattress protector might very well assist at this stage - I'd guide you to 2 online retailers with a wider range of products than we have available. The first company is Latex Sense and they retail a wider range of Latex products specifically. The second company is Soak and Sleep and they retail toppers such as wool and microfibres that will again give a cool sleep surface.

I hope this has helped answer your questions but if you do have any more queries please don't hesitate to contact our office on 0161 437 4419. We are open Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am to 4pm.

Kind Regards, Lee.
