Australian sealy posturepedic bed help

A customer asked

This is an enquiry from Australia. I realize you don't ship beds here, but you may be able to comment. My wife and I are both of slim build, light weight.
About seven years ago we purchased a Sealy posturepedic bed without much research, largely on brand name and advertising. Since then the foam on top has gone flat and the mattress is uncomfortable. Having been shopping around for a new mattress, we've found its like buying a magic pudding. There is a complete lack of meaningful information about mattresses.
We now want to get a properly engineered mattress, to our requirements, so we ask if this is feasible:
Sleeper's weights: 50-70 Kg.
Calico or similar pocket springs, each spring 20 cm high capable of easily compressing 10 cm.
A small amount of quality padding top and bottom so the mattress can be flipped over.
In short we are trying to create a VERY soft mattress, suitable for light weight people, where the softness is engineered in with the springs rather than layered on top with foam. Can we do this? We could probably get the bed made up in Australia if we could source good quality pocket springs. Thank you.

Hi Peter,

Thank you for your question.

Given your body weights, we would never have recommended that you purchase a mattress described as posturepedic as these are predominantly firm in feel, which is the exact opposite of your preference.

Your creation of a soft feel mattress will need to have a combination of soft tension springs and soft upholstery layers. The best products around for achieving a soft feel in the upholstery layers are natural such as Wool, horsehair as a support layer, Mohair, Alpaca, Cashmere and Cotton. Some blends of wool and cotton can also be used. It would be inappropriate to rely entirely on the spring unit for softness as the lack of upholstery will result in the mattress failing in the short term.

I trust this helps Kind regards Julie
