Pillowtop still uncomfortable after dipping frequently
Hi there
We have a wooden slat bed frame and found our pillow top mattresses would sink under the common sleeping and sitting areas. We have since screwed down sheets of chip board/wood on the base but obviously our mattress is still uncomfortable due to the dipping. If we purchased another pillow top mattress what other steps would you recommend to prevent dipping and longer lasting mattress as this hasnt lasted a year due to it dipping away . Thanks!
Hi Terina,
I would avoid the purchase of another pillow top at all costs.
These mattresses may appear luxurious at first, but once the top fails, the whole mattress needs replacing and they are only single sided, which also has an impact on the longevity.
Whereas, if you purchase a double sided mattress with a separate topper, if the topper fails, there is less expense incurred in replacing that.
There are tolerances involved with any mattress purchased in terms of the amount of dip and you should make enquiries of the retailer to see what the tolerances are for your particular mattress.
If they appear greater, you should request an independent examination from FIRA or other reputable organisation.

Kind regards Mike.
