Hi, very impressed with your approach & materials. I'm 195 cm tall and weigh 110 kg. I've been sleeping for the past 16-17 years on a USA TempurPedic (Tempur) Classic mattress - I moved to the UK 11 years ago and brought my USA bed and USA mattress with me. The mattress is no longer offering comfortable sleep; I'm mostly a side-sleeper and my hips can "feel" the firm/hard base, and I awaken in the morning with sore hips (not from muscle pain, but from pressure on my hip bone). So I'm looking to buy a new bed and mattress. I'm favouring an Ottoman-style bed with sprung slats (only sprung slats seem to be available with these) as I'd appreciate the underneath storage. So, 2 concerns: 1) which of your mattresses would probably be "right" for me in a UK King and 2) will your mattresses work well with an ottoman-style frame with sprung slats, and can I use your MDF sprung-slats solution on an Ottoman-style bed? Many thanks!

Hi Dennis,

Thank you for your question.

I have to say I am impressed with longevity of your current mattress. Although your body weight would normally dictate that you opt for a firm tension mattress, because you are quite tall that weight is distributed over a greater area meaning that a medium tension is likely to suit. I would suggest that you look at our Artisan range and in particular the Artisan Naturals, and  Artisan Bespoke 004.

The Artisan Naturals and Artisan Bespoke 004 both have a medium comfort layer ( those are all the fillings which are on top of the springs that give you the comfort) meaning the mattress is neither too soft nor too firm.  However putting either mattress on to an ottoman base will firm the spring tension up again which is why a medium spring tension would be best for you.

As far as use with an ottoman base is concerned, before purchasing such a base, you should make specific enquiries as to the maximum weight that the struts will support as the above mattresses are between 50 and 60kg and the application of MDF sheeting will also add weight. If the struts can support weights of up to 80kg, then any of the above products would be suitable.

If you have any further queries once you have established the strut tolerances, please call our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind regards Julie
