Hi
I need the firmest mattress available (double) for my painful back - hurts only when I lay down.
I am 9 stone in weight and undergoing therapy for the back (seems to be a bone issue).

Hi Martin,
The advice provided by health professionals for people with back problems used to be to go for a firm mattress/bed.
This has recently been contradicted and I would suggest you read this article http://www.chiropractic-uk.co.uk/time-to-change-your-mattress-244-news.aspx, which supports the new advice.
What you require is support from a spring unit and comfort from the upholstery layers.
