Shetland pocket V's Tempur?

A customer asked

Without knowledge I am drawn to the idea of a Shetland pocket spring level 1 comfort mattress. My present mattress is 11 years old on a Slumberland 4 drawer divan base. I have multiple degenerative conditions and am an octigenarian. I am awaiting heart valve surgery. I would love to have a really comfortable lie. My weight is just under 11 stone. Have you any comments?

In my small bedroom I have a Single Tempur multifunction base and mattress which I do not love and therefore avoid, in favour of the 4.6" size Slumberland, as above.

Hi Kathleen,

Thank you for your question.

I note your preference for the Shetland, which contains a total of 4 layers of wool on top of the spring unit.

As far as level 1 comfort is concerned, this may be a definition provided by the retailer the details of which are not readily available for consideration, although given the upholstery layers, I would imagine this means soft.

If your preference is for a soft mattress, our Artisan Luxury has more than double the natural upholstery layers of the Shetland and could be used on your existing divan base.  At your body weight and as you seem to prefer a particularly soft mattress, I would also recommend a soft spring tension to give you that overall soft comfort and support.
