A customer asked

On your "Mattress Cover Fabrics" page, you write: "The origins range use a number of different finishes all which can be found on the product listings."
The "Origins Comfort 1000" cover fabric is embossed with the phrase "Pure Silk" and the description says, "The mattress cover is a premium soft knit Silk content fabric."
The "Origins Pocket 1500" cover fabric is embossed with the word "Cashmere" but there is no additional information in the product listing, that I can see.
The "Origins Pocket Reflex 1000" (which is the model I am most interested in) gives no information about its cover fabric, that I can see.
If I were to purchase a single "Origins Pocket Reflex 1000" I would be placing the mattress on a rigid, slatted wooden base, the slats covered with MDF or pegboard, with a 4.5 Tog duvet between the board and the mattress and a thicker duvet placed directly on top of the mattress to provide additional comfort and protection.
I'm not too concerned about the appearance and feel of the mattress fabric covering since on a day to day basis, it would be covered and protected on its upper and lower surfaces. But I am concerned about a knit fabric's resistance to snagging when unpacking, setting up, changing sheets, turning the mattress etc.
I note that a couple of reviews at TrustPilot for the "Origins Pocket Reflex 1000" (left in September and October 2015), have mentioned issues with threads having pulled or snagged. (In one case, the purchaser reports having been sent three mattresses in a row that had all had issues with snagging.)
My question is, are you still using the same cover fabric for the "Pocket Reflex 1000" and what is the cover fabric made of?

Hi Suzy,

Thanks for your question.

The fabric used in the top and bottom cover of the Origins Pocket Reflex is comprised 100% polyester and is in the form of a knitted finish.  We were experiencing some issues with the snagging of this fabric.

Origins Reflex
1 750gsm Very soft Polyester
2 One inch reflex foam layer
3 270gsm Polyester
4 One inch reflex foam layer
5 1000 Spun Bond Pocket Springs

However, this was a batch which was ultimately found to be faulty and a new batch is now being used and the issue of snagging has been resolved.  In the meantime, I understand that you have now decided upon the Origins Comfort 1000.

Our Origins Comfort 1000 mattress is the softest mattress we retail in our Origins range and will give the most sink into that top layer you can find with any of our Origins mattresses.

John Ryan By Design Origins Comfort
1 750gsm Very Soft Polyester
2 500gsm Polyester Pad
3 One Inch Foam Insulator Layer
4 1000 Spun Bond Pocket Springs

We would need to know your body weights in order to discuss suitability of spring tension;

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

As far as the fabric covers are concerned, unlike the majority of our competitors, we do not make a great issue of the materials used in the covers as the most important part is the upholstery layers. With the Origins range, which are primarily comprised of man made upholstery layers, we utilise man made fabric covering materials.

I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries please don't hesitate to contact our office on 0161 437 4419. We are open Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am to 4pm.

Kind Regards, Lee.
