Hi my wife and I are looking for a new bed at the moment we have pocket springs plus memory foam on top but we find that the bed has dips in the mattress where we normally sleep these dips stay there all the time then we were thinking about full memory foam?

Hi Stuart,

From your description it appears that you have what is known as a "pillow top" mattress with that topper being made of memory foam.

This type of mattress has one inherent flaw and that is that the they cannot be turned and so with use dips and hollows will occur in the places where you regularly sleep.

If this is not the case and the topper is separate and your mattress is double sided, you should turn and rotate regularly to avoid the occurrence of dips. Having said that, if you have had it for some time and not turned before now, it is unlikely that doing so will resolve the dip issue.

Memory foam is notorious for heat retention, although many find them to be quite suitable.

As far as advising which is best, I would advise that each has pros and cons, although I would suggest that pocket springs are preferable, not only because of the heat retention, but because memory foam is slow to respond meaning that when you try to move during sleeping hours, it can feel like you are having to climb out of a hole in order the change position. This does not happen with pocket springs and additional comfort can be obtained with the application of a separate topper, although I would wait until you have had any new product for at least 14 days before deciding whether one is necessary or not.

Other things to consider are, most importantly, body weight(s), preferred feel and ultimately, budget. If you would like some advice with regard to our products please call our office when we will be happy to assist in the selection of the most suitable product for you from our ranges.

Kind Regards Gary
