Mattress for tall, 17-stone man
Hi Mike et al.,
In February I wrote asking about mattress recommendation for a 17-stone 6'7" tall man (myself). In the end I ordered a "Leesa mattress-in-a-box" based on a friend's recommendation. It is not fit for purpose for me. You had recommended that I look at the Artisan Naturals, Artisan Bespoke, and Artisan Bespoke 004 mattresses; unfortunately these are/were beyond my budget. I have been looking again at the JR website, and am wondering if you might have any additional recommendations? In particular I am wondering if the Hybrid 5 or another model might be a suitable alternative (I tend to be a side-sleeper). I looked also at the Origins Pocket 2000 - though I'm concerned about the relatively short guarantee period for that. Also, I think I'd a like a mattress that's a bit deeper. Also looked at the Fusion range, but am not clear as to whether that might be appropriate. The Leesa people are coming in the next week or so to pick up the unsuitable mattress (definitely not a mattress for tall and/or heavier people), so I'm getting ready to order its replacement. I couldn't even sleep on it one whole night through because it was so uncomfortable. Sorry in advance to be a bother. I genuinely appreciate your website and your YouTube videos, BTW! Many, many thanks!
Hi there,
Thank you for your further question.
The Hybrid 5 or Fusion 4 are cooler than memory foam and a lot more responsive and would provide you with a medium feel, although in terms of depth the Hybrid is similar in depth to the Origins Pocket 1500/2000, but the Fusion 4 is only 23cm deep.
Although you have a body weight of 17 st, this weight is distributed over a larger than normal frame meaning that there is no over concentration of weight in any one area.
Personally, I would suggest opting for the Origins Pocket 2000, which should provide a medium feel for you from the comfort layers but with the correct support for your body weight.
If you are still unsure, please call our office on 0161 437 4419 for more detailed advice as to suitability.
Kind regards Julie
